The Course Hole-
These comments relate to the course played from the Medal Tees; it is somewhat less challenging from the Box Tees
1
Short par 4 , but out of bounds on right
2
Tough par 3, long, uphill, and normally into the prevailing wind
3
Tricky par 3, tee shot has to clear wall and stop on the green
4
The challenge at this par 4 is to hit a well bunkered green with your second shot
5
A par 4 with a narrow landing area for the drive; the second shot has to hit a narrow green
6
Short par 4 but you have to get your drive in the right place, and judge your second accurately
7
Long par 4; out of bounds on the left all the way
8
Another long par 4; the drive has to avoid out of bounds on the left, and hold a sloping fairway. The long second shot has to hold a small green, often down wind.
9
Short par 4; relatively easy from a good straight drive
10
Short par 4; the difficulty here is judging the second shot to a steeply elevated green
11
Long uphill par 3; normally into the wind
12
Needs a good drive, and careful judgement of the second shot to a green which slopes away from you
13
Long uphill par 4. Ranks with the eighth as the most difficult holes on the course. Normally plays into the prevailing wind
14
Longish par 3 to a well bunkered green
15
Short , downhill par 3
16
Should be an easy par 4, but the fairway is narrow, and out of bounds lurks on the right
17
Par 3 ; cliff on right, out of bounds on left, green well bunkered. But there are magnificent views over the Forth estuary, Edinburgh, and the Forth Bridges.
18
Challenging long par 3, especially if you have a good score.
